Gwen’s mother and sister were in Cork this weekend for an aunt’s 90’s birthday so they popped out to see us on Sunday evening. I made some fresh meatballs with local beef and pork in a nice marinara sauce which seemed to go down very well. We dropped them to Cork City train station this afternoon to catch a train to Dublin and afterwards drove around the city to familiarize ourselves with the place. Rest of afternoon was spent checking out Kinsale town wandering around the narrow streets checking out all the little shops and reading delicious looking menus outside so many great looking restaurants.
Later in the day we walked up and down Garretstown Strand with the girls (some low quality mobile phone pictures following) , gave the girls a well needed bath. Gwen and I finished the evening watching the Bank Holiday movie on RTE 1 (Casino Royal) with a nice Spanish Rioja.
PS: Two somewhat interesting observations since we arrived in Kinsale. When we first pulled into the town on Saturday afternoon on the narrow windy roads we got stuck behind three very old restored tractors driven by three guys who were definitely not farmers. They were basically three yuppie type guys cruising around in their immaculate Massey Fergusons and Ford tractors. The Dallas equivalent would be three similar guys weekend driving their Harleys! The second interesting observation was a big game of cricket being played on Garretstown beach this evening with a hurley stick instead of a cricket bat!
Weather BTW is lovely here!
