Mexico

Monday 31st (Memorial Day).  We spent our final night at our fancy suite “hotel” on Central.  Up early, Gwen’s suffering a little after previous day at Alec’s house (again – thanks Alec, we had a great day).   Dropped off our Irish luggage at Maria and Gerry’s and then a pit stop at Brenda and Keiron’s new house on the way to the airport.   Brenda/Keiron, we are very impressed.  You did a fantastic job, your new home is amazing and I am so glad we got to see it before heading out of town.

Flight to Cancun was grand with no delays and girls were brilliant on the plane.  We arrived at the Dreams Resort in Cancun at about 9pm and initial reaction to the place was very nice but humid, really busy, noisy and full of people who looked like they were partying hard.   Disaster then such when we realized we lost Jessica’s blanket somewhere between the airport and the hotel.  This is something she clings to day and night and there was no way we would get any sleep without it.  So first few house were spend tracking down bus drivers, bell captains and anyone we came in contact with to see if they knew anything about the missing blanky.    We eventually gave up looking and amazingly Jessica fell asleep relatively easy which I assume was because it was so late and we were all so tired.

We awoke the next morning to the noise of waves and a beautiful turquoise sea view.   Gwen headed straight to Hotel lost and found to see if there was any sign of the blanket (and many more times that day) with no luck.  Big breakfast and then straight to the beach for a few hours and then to one of the pools.   The place was considerably quieter than when we arrived and luckily turned out that most quests had left after Memorial weekend.  So sitting in a pool with girls the first people we ended up talking to was a couple from Wicklow and Cork who now live in Colorado and their friends who were from Galway and Waxahachie.    What are the chances?  Rest of the day spend on the beach with a family from Kansas (they had four daughters) who  got on famously with our three.  Great Mexican dinner that night with some fun Mexican show that told the history of Mexico from the Aztecs to today.    At the end of the meal Gwen went one more time to lost and found and a Mexican miracle happened and Jessica and her blanket were reunited.   The hotel even had it cleaned!  Jessica slept like a baby that night as did the rest of us.  This resort is really exceeding all our expectations and would easily highly recommend it.     Did I mention that the hotel has lots of dolphins swimming and doing tricks adjacent to the swimming pool?

Wednesday was another glorious day.  Another big breakfast, really good lattes and then off to the pool again.  Sarah checked into the kids club and hung out with two English girls for the day while mom, dad Anna and Jessica basically had a nice lazy day in the water being waited on by a very attentive staff and beers and virgin dakaries arrived without asking all day.

Thursday more sun, sea and pool and then headed back to Dallas for final night staying at Maria and Gerry’s house.  Flight to Ireland via Atlanta is at 1pm on Friday.
